STORRS, Conn. – Despite two Stags with double-doubles, the Fairfield University volleyball team fell to Big East foe University of Connecticut, 3-0 (13-25, 25-27, 26-28) at the UConn Classic at Gampel Pavilion.
 
Junior Rachel Romansky posted her second double-double of the year finished with 35 assists and 12 digs along with four kills. Sophomore Camille Coffey notched her first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs.
 
Sophomore Caitlin Stapleton just missed a double-double finishing with 11 kills, nine digs, and five total blocks. Senior Kara Reis was also in double-digits with 22 digs.
 
The Huskies (3-2) forged a 25-13 victory in the first set behind .300 hitting and just two attack errors. UConn led by as much as seven points, 16-9, in the second set when Fairfield began to slowly chip away at the lead. A kill by Romansky sparked a 6-2 run for the Stags to pull them within 18-16. Fairfield continued to fight, as they came back to knot the score 21-21 on a kill by junior Hayley Moyer (Riverside, Calif.) and took the lead on a block by Moyer and Romansky. After trading the next few points, the two teams were tied at 25-25. UConn's Devon Maugle gave them the lead with a kill while a block by Mattison Quayle and Immanuella Anagu gave them the 27-25 victory.
 
The third set started with a 9-3 run by UConn but Fairfield countered with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to a point. The Stags continued to climb back tying the set, 12-12, on a kill by Stapleton. With the score tied at 14-14, the Stags rattled off five unanswered points for the 19-14 advantage. Trailing 23-18, UConn mounted a late rally coming back to tie the score 23-23. With the score tied at 26-26, back-to-back kills by Maugle gave the Huskies the victory.
 
Moyer finished with five kills and four total blocks for Fairfield. Maugle had a double-double for UConn with a match-high 16 kills and 10 digs.
 
The Huskies out-blocked the Stags, 10-7, but Fairfield had a 43-42 advantage in kills and a 69-65 advantage in digs.
 
The Stags (0-5) close out play at the UConn Classic this evening against Dartmouth College at 5pm.
