Game Notes

The #13/14 Fairfield University men's lacrosse team completes its 2012 regular season as it hosts ECAC Lacrosse League foe Ohio State University on Lessing Field Saturday at 1 p.m.  The game will be preceded, at 12:50, by a ceremony honoring nine members of the Stags senior class.

Fans that are unable to make the game can watch ($7.95) at fairfieldstags.tv or watch livestats (free).

Fairfield enters the game at 11-2 overall, which equals the program record for victories in a season, and having won consecutive games. Ohio State comes into the game at 7-6 on the year and enters the day with a three-game win streak.  Both teams are 4-1 in ECAC Lacrosse League action and will face-off in the 8 p.m. semifinal of the ECAC Championship on Wednesday, May 2.  The winner of today's game will earn the second seed in the tournament, while the other team will be the third seed.

Fairfield has equaled a program-best with its 11 victories this season, equaling the 1998 and 2005 squads. It marks the fifth time in varsity history that the Stags have reached a double-digit win total in a season.

Fairfield and Ohio State are meeting for the 10th time, with the Stags 4-5 in the series.  Fairfield has won the last two meetings, 10-8 on Alumni Field in 2010 and 11-9 last season at the Showdown in the Shoe.  The Buckeyes last victory came in 2009, 11-6, when they were ranked #16 in the country, and in their first year in the ECAC.  The two squads met five times as conference foes in the Great West Lacrosse League with the Stags earning wins in 2002, 8-7, and 2005, 14-10.  The Buckeyes won the first-ever meeting between the two teams, 9-8 in 2000 and the first GWLL meeting, 11-10.  Fairfield is 2-2 in games played at home versus Ohio State

The Stags are 5-1 at home this season, with the lone loss an 8-6 decision to now #1 Loyola.  Fairfield is 17-8 at home under Andy Copelan in his four seasons.  Copelan coached Stag squads are 4-3 in games on Lessing Field, with a 3-2 record on the grass against ECAC foes.

Fairfield maintained its ranking of fourth in the nation with a .607 face-off win percentage as a team.  The Stags have won 184 times at the X this season, 14.2 per game, which is nearly double the 7.25 face-off wins per game from last season

Sam Snow, the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week and the Baltimore Sun Player of the Week, scored a career-high equaling five-goals, including the game tying goal with 19 seconds left in regulation and the game-winner, 32 seconds into overtime, in the Stags win over Denver.  The junior is leading the team with 31 goals and 38 points, ranking 18th and 52nd nationally in those categories.  In the seven games since being blanked by Vermont, Snow has scored 25 points.

The overtime win over Denver was the Stags fourth decision this season that required extra-time.  Fairfield is 4-0 in those games, and helped the Stags to a 5-0 record this season in one-goal games.  In the four seasons Andy Copelan has been at the helm, the Stags have played 19 games that were decided by a single-tally, going 11-8.

Charlie Cipriano stopped 12 shots against Denver, his 10th double-digit save effort of the year and his fourth consecutive game with at least 10 stops. He also caused a turnover, with 34 seconds to play, that led to a Denver penalty and the Stags man-up goal that tied the game.  This season Cipriano has 146 saves, his second-best single-season effort, which is 10th in the nation at 11.23 saves per game.  He enters the week ranked 14th in the nation with a .562 save percentage, and is 18th nationally with an 8.60 GAA

Michael Roe is fifth in the nation this week, having won 63.1 percent of the face-offs he has contested, after going 14-21 against Denver. He has won 10 or more face-offs in five straight games and in 10 games this season and now has 157 victories this season, the fourth best effort in program history.
