ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Fairfield University softball team remained unbeaten at the Rebel Games following its 4-0 win over Youngstown State on Wednesday afternoon. The win represented the fifth for Fairfield during its stay in the Sunshine State.
Fairfield opened the scoring in the top of the second with a pair of runs.
Rae Ball started the rally with a walk, which was followed by
Tiffany Lawson's base hit bunt. Both players advanced a base on a foul out down the first base line, but a throwing error after the catch sent both runners up an additional base and gave the Stags a 1-0 lead.
Brianna Levick drove home the second run with a single that chased home Lawson.
One inning later, the lead improved to 3-0 after
Kristen Filicia singled and stole second base to place herself in scoring position. She continued on to third with another stolen base before she was thrown out on a fielder's choice by Liseth. Liseth would eventually come around and score following an error by the third baseman.
The game's final run was tallied in the fourth inning with Lawson in the middle of the rally. The junior picked up an infield single and went to second after
Kimi Kurata dropped down a sacrifice bunt. She took third after a ground out to first base and touched home plate off a wild pitch.
Rebecca Trott earned the victory by tossing seven shutout innings. .The sophomore allowed just three hits and struck out three batters.
