Swimming & Diving Set For MAAC Championships

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will head to the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships February 16-18 at the Burt Flinkinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

The mid-February event will be the last for Michelle Yoshida who will look to defend her MAAC Championship titles in the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle. Yoshida, who has earned eight individual medals during her career, is the three-time defending champion in the 100 free and set the MAAC standard in the 100 back last season.

Senior Brian Friedlander enjoyed a successful MAAC Championship last season, placing 10th in both the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke and will look to improve upon those finishes this season. Senior Stefan Toi placed 11th in the 400 IM at MAACs last season and also scored in the 200 fly and 200 IM.

Freshman Tyler Conley will challenge for a medal in the sprint freestyle events. Entering his first MAAC Championships, Conley owns the third-fastest time in the 50 free this season and the seventh-fastest time in the 100 free.

Sophomore Suzy Lawlor made a splash in her MAAC Championship debut last season, placing seventh in the 100 breaststroke and ninth in the 200 breaststroke. She's poised to challenge for a medal this season. Junior Cacky Keating is also expected to have another solid MAAC Championship. Last season, she placed fourth in the 200 fly, eighth in the 100 fly, and tenth in the 200 IM.

There will be five divers experiencing their first MAAC Championship while junior Ryan Krebs will compete in his third event. Krebs placed 15th on the 3-meter and 16th on the 1-meter last season and will look to improve upon that finish.

The MAAC will be streaming the event live on MAAC.tv for a fee. To view the championships, go to MAAC.TV/register and sign up. Live results will also be available for the event. For more information, visit MAAC Championship Central.
