WORCESTER, Mass. – Sarah Wickles scored the game's only goal with 20 minutes remaining in the game, lifting the Fairfield University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over the College of the Holy Cross. The win improved the Stags' overall record to 7-2, and extended the team's winning streak to five games.

Wickles broke the scoreless tie almost single-handedly when she took an initial shot that was turned away by goalkeeper Kat Matchett. The ball caromed back to Wickles who quickly pushed the rebound past Matchett for a 1-0 leat at the 50:15 mark.

Fairfield goalkeeper Maddy Sposito made two saves to record her second straight shutout, and the team's fourth shutout in nine games. The Stags have not allowed a goal in 253 consecutive minutes, dating back to a 2-1 win against St. Francis on September 11.

The Stags return to action on September 30 when they head to the University of New Hampshire for their America East opener. New Hampshire is currently unbeaten and ranked eighth in the latest NFHCA coaches poll.
