BERKELEY, Calif. – The Fairfield University volleyball team was stopped by third-ranked University of California, 3-0 (12-25, 15-25, 14-25) this afternoon at the Cal Molten Classic at Haas Pavilion.

 

For the second straight match, rookie Caitlin Stapleton led the Stags with seven kills. Freshman Marilyn Peizer added five kills.Sophomore Rachel Romansky finished with 17 assists, six digs, and four kills while junior Kara Reis chipped in with 11 digs.

 

Cal, the national runners-up in 2010, improved to 2-0 on the season behind an 11-kill effort by AVCA First Team All-American Tarah Murrey. Correy Johnson, an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention last season, added seven kills on .583 hitting and three total blocks while Elly Barrett had 31 assists, five total blocks, and four kills.

 

Fairfield (0-2) concludes competition at the Cal Molten Classic this evening when the Stags take on UC Riverside at 5pm (PST).
