Fairfield University 2004 men's lacrosse graduate Peter Vlahakis became the all-time face-off wins leader in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) on June 11 in Boston. An eight-year veteran of the MLL, he is in his sixth season with the Long Island Lizards and has now won 1,039 career face-offs.
Seven years after his graduation from Fairfield, Vlahakis is the program's all-time leader in face-offs won (620) and face-off win percentage (.627). He set the school-record for face-offs wins in a season in 2004, winning 197, as he won a school-record 65.4 percent of his draws that season. As a sophomore in 2002, Vlahakis won 150 face-offs, fourth in a single-season, as he led the Stags to the Great West Lacrosse League crown and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Upon the completion of his Fairfield career Vlahakis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2004 MLL Supplemental Draft, one of three Stags (C.J. Kemp & Matt Buecker) selected in that draft.
Joe Werkmeister took an in-depth look at the career of Vlahakis for the
Riverhead News Review on June 18 and you can

Fairfield is a member of the ECAC Lacrosse League, advancing to the championship game of the inaugural ECAC Tournament this past spring. The Stags have had three consecutive seasons of at least a .500 record and have compiled 23 victories in that time.
