Catching Up With Joe Marra

Joe Marra, a 2010 Fairfield University graduate, is making a name for himself in Major League Lacrosse, making his first collegiate start on June 10th and earning the win. A three-year member of the Stags men's lacrosse team, Marra is playing for the Hamilton Nationals and was in net for the team's inaugural victory, a 14-13 triumph over the Rochester Rattlers.
Marra, a 2010 All-ECAC Lacrosse League First-Team selection, stopped 16 shots in the start. It was his first professional start and the first win in Hamilton's existence. He has played a majority of the team's minutes in goal this season, 93:45, and his 10.24 GAA is second in the league. He boasts a .610 save percentage is also good for second in the league, while his 25 saves (2 games) is sixth.

The 37th pick of the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft, by Chicago, Marra is the ninth Fairfield player to be drafted and only the second to be taken in the Collegiate Draft. He started all 14 games in net for the Stags in 2010 and stopped a career-best 150 shots, 10th best in program history for a single-season. His .597 save percentage ranked him second in the nation that season, behind current teammate Scott Rodgers. Marra finished his senior campaign at Fairfield with a 7.90 GAA, fifth in the nation.

Hamilton is now 1-2 on the year and host the Denver Outlaws on June 18. The Nationals make two trips to New England this season, playing the Boston Cannons on July 23 and the Long Island Lizards on August 13 in the regular season finale.

Fairfield is a member of the ECAC Lacrosse League, advancing to the championship game of the inaugural ECAC Tournament this past spring. The Stags have had three consecutive seasons of at least a .500 record and have compiled 23 victories in that time.
