Game Notes
The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team plays its only road game of the month as it resumes ECAC Lacrosse League play at Hobart College on Saturday. The Stags, 4-3 overall, are tied atop the ECAC standings, while the Statesmen are 3-4 on the season and are playing their league opener.

Fairfield and Hobart are meeting for the seventh time with the Stags leading the series 4-2. The Stags have won back-to-back meetings over the Statesmen, including a 9-7 victory in Geneva in 2009, when Hobart was ranked 17th in the nation. The two teams have met in each of the last six seasons, with the Stags winning the first meeting, on the road, 11-8 in 2005. Fairfield is 2-1 in games played at Hobart and are 3-2 against the Statesmen in ECAC Lacrosse League contests.
After snapping a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Bryant, Hobart defeated Canisius 10-8 on Tuesday evening. The Statesmen are averaging 7.71 goals per game, while allowing 9.6 goals a game to their opponents. Four players have tallied 10 or more points, led by Sam Miller and his 17 points, coming from a team-high 15 goals. Tim Bigelow leads the way with seven assists and his 10 points. Bobby Dattilo has won 66.2 percent of the face-offs Hobart has contested, and has a team-best 55 ground balls. Evan Kirk has started all seven games in net, playing 405 minutes and has a .521 save percentage and a 9.91 GAA.
John Snellman has come alive during the last three games, netting nine of his 12 points in the stretch. He tallied his first hat trick of the season against Colgate, as well as handing out an assist, for a season-high four points. Snellman has two or more goals in four games this season, including the last three games. He started the season with a three-point effort at Lafayatte, but did not score again for three games. He tallied twice in the Stags win over Air Force and followed that with a two-goal, one-assist effort in the win over Vermont. Snellman begins today's game tied for the team lead with 12 points and second with nine goals.
Fairfield's man-down defense continues to impress having allowed opponents to score just three extra-man goals on the year. The Stags are killing off penalties at an 85.7 percent clip, which is good for third in the nation. Five times this season the Stags have not allowed an opponent to score in a man-up situation for the entire game. The Stags did not allow an opponent an extra-man goal in the first three games of the year until Villanova went 2-7. The Stags then were a perfect 6-6 in man-down situations against Vermont and Air Force, before Colgate went 1-2. Fairfield finished sixth in the nation in 2010 in man-down defense, allowing foes to score just 25 percent (13-52) of the time.
Max Trunz has dished out eight assists over the last four games to bring his team-leading total to 11, good for third in the conference. His 1.57 assists per game is 22nd in the nation entering the week. Trunz scored his lone goal of the season versus Bryant to give him a dozen points, which is tied for the team lead. Trunz handed out a team-best 14 assists last season and now has 32 for his career. He handed out three assists in the Stags ECAC win over Air Force and has had two or more assists in four of the last six games the team has played.
The Stags have scored 50 goals this season with 13 different players touching net at least once. Ten of those players have scored more than once, with only three scoring more than four times. Fairfield's best display of offensive sharing came against Quinnipiac when seven different players scored the team's seven goals.
