The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 decision to Colgate University in the final game of a five-game homestand on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The loss dropped the Stags to 4-3 overall on the year, while the Raiders improved to 5-3.

The Raiders held a 5-2 advantage at halftime and opened the second-half scoring 2:35 in on a goal from Andrew Mould. The Stags responded with back-to-back goals from Doug Kuring (New Milford, Conn.) at 10:05 and Sam Snow (Bainbridge, Wash.) 57 seconds later to make the score 6-4. Peter Baum netted a pass from Michael Thomas with 7:45 to play in the third quarter to push the Raiders lead back to three goals, 7-4.

Connor Brown was whistled for an un-releasable 2:00 penalty 64 seconds into the fourth quarter and Fairfield capitalized with a pair of tallies. John Snellman (Norwalk, Conn.) scored the first one at the 13:25 mark and then fed Marshall Johnson (Canandaigua, N.Y.) to make the score 7-6, 20 seconds later. The Stags won the ensuing face-off, but Dave Tucciarone forced a turnover and Colgate collected the ball and killed the remaining time on the penalty. Less than a minute after the penalty ended Baum touched net to give Colgate an 8-6 advantage.

Snow scored his second of the game with 7:24 to play in the contest, getting the Stags within a goal, 8-7, but despite winning the ensuing face-off, the Stags could not get the equalizer. Colgate scored three consecutive goals in just under four minutes of play, to open an 11-7 advantage. Ryan Mulford (Crownsville, Md.) put home a pass from Max Trunz (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) with 20 seconds remaining and Johnson won the face-off and scored unassisted with nine seconds to play to provide the final margin.

Snellman touched net three times, as well as handing out an assist, to pace the Stags offensive effort. Johnson and Snow both had two goals and an assist in the game, while Kuring and Mulford each scored once. The Stags outshot Colgate 45-29 in the game, but Raider goalie Jared Madison made 13 saves to earn the win. Charlie Cipriano (Williston Park, N.Y.) minded the net for Fairfield, making nine saves in the contest.

Colgate was led by the four-goal, one-assist effort of Baum and a hat trick from Andrew Mould. The Raiders cleared the ball 13-15 on the day and committed just 10 turnovers.
Fairfield won 14-24 face-offs on the afternoon and for the first time this season had an equal number of ground balls, 26-26, as its opponent.   Steve Golmont (Martinsville, N.J.) was 13-22 at the face-off X for the Stags, while Johnson was 1-2. Golmont had a team-high six ground balls, while Jim Carroll led in that category for Colgate with five.

Fairfield, which finished its homestand 3-2, travels to Hobart on March 26 for an ECAC Lacrosse League game, before returning home to host conference rival Bellarmine on April 2.
