The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team will open the home portion of its schedule Tuesday night when it hosts Quinnipiac University at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field. The Stags are 1-1 on the year, while the Bobcats are 0-1 on the season.
Tuesday night's game will be available via webcast through Fairfield's partnership with Stretch Internet. Fans are able to purchase a men's lacrosse package, seven home games, for $29, or purchase individual games for $7.95. For the first time the webcast viewer will also feature an integrated Livestats option. Fans are also able to purchase a Fairfield lacrosse package, for $49, which will grant access to all of the Stags home men's and women's games this spring.
Fairfield and Quinnipiac are meeting for only the third time in men's lacrosse with each team having a win in the series. The Bobcats defeated the Stags in the season finale last season, 11-10 in overtime, in an ECAC Lacrosse League contest. Fairfield's win came when the two teams met in the season opener of the 199 season. The Stags won that game at home 15-2.
Quinnipiac was handed a 13-4 loss in its season opener at Brown on Saturday. Kevin Kelly scored two goals for the Bobcats, while Billy Alessi and Jack Oppenheimer each scored once. Kevin Benzing made 10 saves in net for the Bobcats, while playing the entire contest. The Bobcats committed six penalties on the day, which resulted in two Brown goals.
Fairfield opens its 18th home season this evening, having posted an 11-7 record in its first home game of the season. The Stags had a three-game home opener win streak snapped last season by Lafayette, 15-10. Third-year head coach
Andy Copelan's first win as Stags head coach came at home, 10-9, in the season opener versus Delaware.
Fairfield has scored 13 goals in its first two games this season with 10 different players touching net. No player has more than two goals, with
Sam Snow, John Snellman and
Doug Kuring tied for the team lead with two tallies.
Snow has scored at least one point in each of his 14 career games at Fairfield, which is the 26th longest active streak in the nation through Sunday. He scored a team-high two goals in the game at Bryant and is atop the team with five points this season. Overall, Snow has scored 17 career goals and has 15 assists. He has also recorded one ground ball this season in starting both games.
