PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior
Katelyn Linney knocked down seven three-pointers to tie the program record as the Fairfield University women's basketball team downed Brown University, 63-55, this evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Linney, who shot 7-for-13 from three-point range to tie her own program record, finished with a season-high 26 points. Linney last hit seven three-pointers against George Mason University on November 15, 2010.
As a team, the Stags (3-2) set the Fairfield single-game record for three-pointers made hitting 11 of 23 shots from downtown. The previous record was 10 three-pointers made which was accomplished three times in program history.
The Stags led for the first eight minutes of the game until Brown's Hannah Passafuime gave them the 10-9 lead at 11:54. Linney responded with three consecutive three-pointers over the next 1:47 to give Fairfield the 18-10 advantage. Junior

Desiree Pina followed with back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead to 24-10 with just over eight minutes left to play. The Stags held the Bears off the board until Lauren Clarke stuck in a lay-up at 5:42 to make the score 28-12. Fairfield controlled the rest of the half taking a 35-17 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime, Brown (3-4) went on a 12-3 run over the first five minutes to cut the deficit to 38-29. Linney returned the lead to double figures at 14:24 with a three-pointer, her fifth of the game. Another three-pointer by Linney at 12:33 gave the Stags a 44-31 lead.
Brown continued to chip away at the lead, pulling within six points, 48-42, on a lay-up by Passafuime at the 6:13 mark. Fairfield returned its lead to as much as 12 points, but the Bears did not back down, pulling within seven points with 1:22 remaining after a pair of Clarke free throws. The Stags were able to hold Brown off to go on to their third victory of the season.
Sophomore
Alexys Vazquez, in her first collegiate start, finished with a career-high eight points to go along with six rebounds. Vetra tallied six points while Pina finished with eight. Senior
Taryn Johnson had seven points and eight rebounds while
Brittany MacFarlane delivered four points and five rebounds off the bench.
Fairfield will return to Providence, R.I. on December 3-4 for the Brown Bear Classic. The Stags will face Providence on Saturday at 4pm followed by the University of Rhode Island at 2pm.
