NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Fairfield University volleyball team downed Iona College 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-12) to win their seventh consecutive match and close out the regular season. The Stags, which have won 16 of their last 18 matches, are 19-9 overall and 16-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and will head to next weekend's league tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Sophomore
Rachel Romansky and senior
Haililani Pokipala each posted double-doubles. Romansky recorded her team-best 13th double-double of the season with 44 assists and 11 digs. Pokipala, meanwhile, tallied 12 kills and 11 digs, for her fifth double-double of the year. Pokipala also tied a career-high with five service aces.
Senior
Kendal Dirkin was nearly flawless on attack, converting 10 of her 19 attempts for kills to end the night with a .474 attack percentage. Freshman
Caitlin Stapleton notched 11 kills while classmate
Marilyn Peizer added nine kills on .421 hitting.
Defensively, junior
Kara Reis tallied 26 digs on the night while
Carsen Mata added 10 digs.
The Stags' winning streak is the second longest of the year; they had an eight-match winning streak between September 23 and October 15. Both of Fairfield's conference losses this season were to two-time defending MAAC Champion Niagara University.
