FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University field hockey team dropped their second game of the weekend with a to 3-1 decision to Brown University.
Fairfield dominated much of the game, outshooting the Bears by double (18-9) but the Stags were unable to put the ball past Brown goalkeeper Shannon McSweeney who had seven saves on the day.
The scoring started off with Brown's senior forward Leslie Springmeyer adding to her team leading point total with an assist to Abigail Taft at the 11:36 mark. The goal was set up after a penalty corner. The score held 1-0 for the remainder of the period, despite the Stags' eight shots on goal.
With just over five minutes left on the clock, sophomore Torie Stearns received the ball from Avery Burns and pushed it past
Maddy Sposito (Ridgefield, Conn.) for the Bears' second goal of the day. Fairfield responded minutes later at the 68:04 mark. Assisted by

Lindsey Hatch (Sewell, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season from the five yard line. Down by one, the Stags had the pressure on but let the ball get away just thirty second after Hatch's goal. With help from Abigail Taft, Stearn acted again putting the ball into the back of the net to finish off the scoring on the day, giving the Bears the 3-1 victory. Brown improves to 3-8 on the season.
After a tough weekend, Fairfield is now 8-5 and will next step on University Field for an October 15 matchup with No. 13 Maine at 1 p.m. The following day, October 16, the Stags will travel to in-state rival Yale to play at 2 p.m.
