The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Marist College Sunday afternoon on Lessing Field. The loss drops the Stags to 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-0 in league play, while the Red Foxes improve to 7-4-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in conference action.
Marist recorded just one shot on goal, 1:56 into the contest, and Jackie Frey found the back of the net. Samantha Panzner fed the ball through two Stag defenders who an open Frey who was able to lift the ball over the charging Kelly Boudreau.
Fairfield finished the game with an 8-7 advantage in shots, putting all eight of its shots on net, but Marist rookie Andrea Wicks stopped all eight shots. The Red Foxes held a 3-1 edge in corner kick chances, and were whistled for two additional fouls, 18-16.
The Stags are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. for a non-conference contest with Harvard University. That game is set for 3 p.m.
