The Fairfield University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw with visiting University of Hartford Thursday night on Lessing Field. The tie keeps the Stags record even at 4-4-1, while the Hawks are now 3-6-1.
The team's goalkeepers both made five saves in the contest, including both making an impressive save after halftime. Lauren Brodeur (Wilbraham, Mass.) made her biggest save of the game for the Hawks at the 58:40 mark, pinning a shot from the Stags
Lauren Reilly (Boca Raton, Fla.) against the crossbar and then corralling the loose ball on the goal line.
Kelly Boudreau (Farmington, Conn.), who posted her fifth clean sheet of the season, made a diving save on a shot from Breeanna Robinson (East Hampstead, N.H.), who had a break-away at towards the far post. Boudreau made another big play early in the first overtime, coming off her line to beat a Hartford attacker to a loose ball at the top of the box. Boudreau became the fourth keeper in Fairfield history to record 20 career shutouts.
The Stags outshot the Hawks 15-11 for the game, including 9-5 after the intermission. Fairfield also had a commanding advantage in corner kick opportunities, 15-2, with seven coming in the second overtime period. Both team committed six fouls in the game, with just one foul – against Hartford – coming in extra time.
The Stags will be back in action on Tuesday, September 28 as they travel to Princeton University for a 7 p.m. contest.
