HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team saw its four-game win streak end at the hands of Hofstra University, as the Pride posted a 5-0 win over the Stags on Saturday afternoon.
Hofstra took the lead early in the game, as Micaela Gallagher controlled a rebound and pushed the ball past goalkeeper
Maddy Sposito just three minutes into the game. Arielle Williams doubled the Pride's advantage with a goal off a penalty corner in the 18th minutes, making the score 2-0 in the first half. The home team finished up the scoring for the half just seven minutes later, as Darrah Rachman took a feed from Williams and carried the ball into the circle before finding an opening for a clean shot.
Genna Kovar used her stick handling skills to score both goals in the second half, the first coming five minutes into the period. She took the ball at the top of the circle and dribbled the ball past a defender before releasing a shot that caught the corner for a 4-0 Hofstra lead. Three minutes later, she brought the ball in from the right side and pushed past the goalkeeper to finish the scoring opportunity.
Sposito made five saves in the Fairfield goal in 44 minutes before yielding to Caitlin O'Donnell. Hofstra goalkeeper Amanda Heyde stopped three Fairfield shots to record the shutout.
