COLLEGE PARK, Md. –
The Fairfield University volleyball team wrapped up play at the Spring Hill Suites at Arundel Mills Terrapin Volleyball Invitational with a 3-0 (17-25, 17-25, 17-25) loss to the defending Ivy League champion University of Pennsylvania.
 
Three Stags were in double digits for the match. Sophomore Brianna Dixion (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded 10 kills on .360 hitting while freshman Rachel Romansky (Denver, Colo.) had 27 assists to go along with six digs and three kills. Junior Alex Lopez (Fort Collins, Colo.) recorded 10 digs.
 
Junior Haililani Pokipala (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished with seven kills while Kendal Dirkin (Oak Park, Ill.) and Lauren Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) finished with six kills apiece. Hughes was named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
In the first set, the Stags were in striking distance of the Quakers at 11-9, but Penn used a 7-0 run to gain ground. The Quakers (3-3) went on to the 25-17 win. Fairfield trailed by two at the start of the second set when Penn went on a 9-2 run for the 15-7 advantage. The Quakers once again went on to the 25-17 victory.
 
The third set was the closer of the three, with eight ties. Fairfield pulled within 16-15 after a Penn setting error, but the Quakers responded by tallying five unanswered points. That was all the room Penn needed, closing out the match on a 4-0 run for the 25-17 victory.
 
Fairfield (1-9) opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play September 18 at Loyola. The Stags continue league play on September 19 at Rider.
