The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association as an Academic Squad honoree, for its accomplishments in the classroom during the 2009-10 academic year.
“This is a testament to the dedication of our student-athletes in the classroom,” said Fairfield head coach
Mike Waldvogel. “To be successful academically is our program's first and foremost goal, and this award shows that we have accomplished that task. I am proud of the time and effort our group of young ladies put forth to excel both in the classroom and on the lacrosse field.”
To be selected an Academic Squad, the team most have a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the season. The Stags were one of 51 teams to earn the national accolade.
Fairfield won its third consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League regular season crown, with 6-0 conference record. The Stags have won 18 consecutive regular season games against MAAC foes, the second longest streak in league and program history. Fairfield finished the 2010 campaign with a 13-5 overall record, and have now won 47 games over the last three seasons.
