The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team was tabbed third in the preseason poll of the seven head coaches in the ECAC Lacrosse League. The Stags were one of five teams to be represented on the Preseason All-ECAC Team, as junior's Brendan McTague (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Brent Adams (Norwalk, Conn.) were honored by the league's coaches.
“I am happy that Brendan and Brent have been recognized by the league's head coaches for their past accomplishments,” said third-year head coach
Andy Copelan. “We are fortunate to play in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation and look for these two guys to be an integral part of what we hope to accomplish in 2011.”
Adams is a two-time All-ECAC selection, earning First-Team accolades after netting a team-high 16 goals during his sophomore season. A graduate of Norwalk High School, Adams has started 18 of the 27 games the Stags have played the last two seasons, and has touched net 32 times. He earned All-NEILA First Team honors after his sophomore season, having been selected to the All-ECAC and All-NEILA Second Team's following a freshman season that saw him lead the team in scoring, with 27 points.
McTague, one of the Stags team captains this season, earns his accolade after being named to the All-ECAC Second Team in 2010. A member of the Stags defensive unit, McTague picked up 35 ground balls last year, third on the team, and caused 13 turnovers, second on the team. He has appeared in 25 games over the last two seasons, with 14 starts, and begins the campaign with 41 career ground balls and two years of athletic eligibility remaining.
Fairfield is coming off its first back-to-back winning seasons in a decade, having won 15 games under the tutelage of Copelan. The Stags begin the 2011 campaign with road games at Lafayette (2/19) and Bryant (2/26) before opening at home on March 1 versus Quinnipiac.
