LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. –
The fifth-seeded Fairfield University volleyball team topped fourth-seeded Manhattan College 3-1 (25-22, 28-26, 13-25, 25-23) to advance to the semifinals of the 2010 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Stags will face top-seeded Niagara on Friday at 5pm. The match will be streamed live on ESPN3.

Junior Haililani Pokipala (Honolulu, Hawaii) tallied a team-high 15 kills, including the match-winner. Pokipala's final blast of the day came after a furious comeback by Manhattan (18-14) as the Jaspers erased a six-point deficit late in the match. The Stags (12-19) were up by that margin when Manhattan stormed back and tied things up at 23-23. But a kill by sophomore Brianna Dixion (Long Beach, Calif.) followed by one from Pokipala put the match away.

Dixion finished with 12 kills and three total blocks while senior Lauren Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) tallied 10 kills and seven digs. Junior Bethany Steiger (Cary, Ill.) posted a career-high eight kills and tied a career-best with five total blocks.

Freshman Rachel Romansky (Denver, Colo.) had 42 assists, eight digs, and four kills while Kendal Dirkin (Oak Park, Ill.) added five kills and four total blocks. Sophomore Kara Reis (Ramona, Calif.) recorded 13 digs while sophomore Stephanie Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) had eight digs.

Manhattan out-blocked Fairfield, 12-9. Diane Strutner led all teams with 19 kills to go along with 10 digs.
