Box Score The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Harvard University in its 2010 season finale. The Stags finish the year at 8-9-3 overall, while the Crimson finish at 9-7-1.
Harvard struck first when Elizabeth Weisman knocked a ball over the head of
Kelly Boudreau just 7:16 into the game. Fairfield would equal the score just over 13 minutes later when
Nikki Stanton rolled home her first collegiate goal.
Carly Beyar put a corner kick into the middle of the box where it found
Rachel Madasci's head and ended up on Stanton's foot.
The score remained 1-1 until early in the second half when Melanie Baskind corralled a loose ball inside the box and hit it inside the far post for the game-winning tally. Both teams had additional chances the remainder of the way, but did not convert until the final seconds. With the Stags pressing to find the equalizer, Harvard was able to clear the ball to midfield. Boudreau was out of goal after having fed a ball to the box, and Baskind was able to push the ball past her and have it roll inside the post with 17 seconds to play.
Boudreau finished the game with nine saves, while a pair of Harvard keepers combined to make three saves. Jessica Wright started the game, playing 30:24 and allowed a goal and made a save. Alexandra Millet played the remaining 59:36, posting two saves, while not allowing a goal.
Harvard finished the game with a 16-9 advantage in total shots, and a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. The Crimson also had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
