Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 To Siena In Double Overti

Box Score
The Fairfield University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 double-overtime decision to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Siena College Friday afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y. The result drops the Stags record to 8-8-2 overall and 4-3-1 in league play, while the Saints improve to 14-3-0 on the year and 5-3-0 in conference action.
Siena got the game winning tally with just over two minutes remaining in the second overtime when Tabitha Tice struck a rebound off the cross bar into the back of the net.
Shannon Fay had put the Stags ahead 1-0 midway through the first-half. Jackie Taylor played a long ball over the top and Fay was able to beat the Siena keeper to the far post. The Stags maintained that advantage until the final minutes of the game, when Ashleigh Barone tucked in a goal for the Saints – netting the third of a flurry of Siena shots in the sequence.
Kelly Boudreau minded the net for all 107:52 for the Stags, making five saves in the effort. It gives the junior 108 saves on the year, surpassing her career-high of 104 stops last season. Elizabeth Barna minded net for the Saints, playing the entire game, and did not make a save.
The loss puts the Stags on the brink of elimination from postseason contention and would need a win on Sunday at Marist (1 p.m.) to get to 16 points in league play. Fairfield would then also need other results in the league to go its way, with any two of the following needing to occur, to qualify for the league championship:  Siena losing to Iona (Sunday), Loyola losing to Rider (Saturday), Niagara to lose once or tie Saint Peter's (Friday) and Manhattan (Sunday), or Canisius lose its final two home games to Manhattan (Friday) and Saint Peter's (Sunday).
