Petersen Paces Men's Cross Country at NCAA Regionals

BRONX, N.Y. – Seven Stags took to the course at Van Cortlandt Park for the third time this season, competing on this occasion at the 2022 NCAA Northeast Regionals, and freshman Alex Petersen led the way for the Fairfield University men's cross country team in their season finale Friday afternoon.

Crossing the line with a time of 34:20.9, Petersen paced the Fairfield lineup in what is the lone 10K competition on the calendar in most seasons, and was followed closely by sophomore Jacob Bornstein who finished in 34:49.7. Just five seconds back of Bornstein was freshman Jack Putnam with a time of 34:54.3 while classmate Ryan Lindley finished in 35:49.3 to complete a group of three first-year runners to finish in the top four for the Fairfield squad and first-year Head Coach Jake Jayworth.

The senior twin brothers would once again finish back-to-back for the Stags with Pacifico Flores edging his brother with a time of 35:50.8 to round out the top-five, followed by Devin Flores in 36:40.9, with Thomas Vanderslice rounding out the lineup for the team in 37:16.4.

Fairfield men's cross country heads into the offseason looking to build on what was an impressive first-year with Jayworth at the helm, and a number of soon-to-be rising sophomores and juniors that will look to continue on the program's successes when they return to competition in fall 2023.
