SHELTON, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's and women's rowing team competed at the Head of the Housatonic, racing in the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 events. The men's varsity 4 highlighted the day with a second-place finish.
The men's varsity 8 started the day for the Stags with a placement of 17
th following its performance on the course, crossing the line in 15:18.2. The Fairfield crew consisted of Mike Hamilton,
Mike McCarthy,
George Voegele,
Spencer Chidley,
Ryan Wrynn,
Collin Hicks,
Brendan Martin,
Zach Rogers, and coxswain Tom Flynn.
The men's varsity 4 secured its runner up run with a time of 16:18.1 behind the efforts of
Jerry Malloy,
Michael Pagliaro,
Michael Greene, Ryan Bossy, and coxswain Matt Tarabocchia.
The first event for the women came in the Varsity 8 race with the A boat taking the highest finish for the Stags. Arianna Welton, Olivia Heilbronn, Meghan Megill, Ana McDonough, Kathryn Bergstrom, Flo Caces, Emma Szachta, Arden Costello, and Erin Dobbs comprised the boat which finished in 16:16.1 for 12
th place.
The B shell secured 20
th place behind the efforts of Emily Dweck, Chloe Lennon, Rebecca Patti, Megan Blair, Isabella King, Grace Fallon, Audrey Sedensky, Sarah Wendling, and coxswain Katelynn Banville. The C boat included Maddie Carter, Sydney Timchak, Christina Caruso, Alicia Glasheen, Molly Cronin, Adalia Flores, Kiersten Murray, Caroline McAndrew, and coxswain Hannah Cross and secured 24
th place in 18:16.0.
The women team picked up its highest finish of the day in the varsity 4 as the A crew took sixth place by finishing the course in 17:56.5. Arianna Welton, Olivia Heilbronn, Emma Szachta, Arden Costello, and coxswain Erin Dobbs were responsible for the strong showing. The B boat took 11
th place with a time of 20:03.0 as Catie Lapolla, Brenna McDonnell, Madi McSherry, Catherine Morrissey, and coxswain Charlotte Finnerty comprised the entry.
The Fairfield men's and women's rowing teams will return to the water on October 23 when they travel to the Head of the Charles.
