Men's Soccer Prepares For Home Game With Saint Peter's Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will play its final regular-season home game of the 2013 season on Wednesday night when it hosts Saint Peter's University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game at Lessing Field. The game is scheduled for a 7 pm start. Prior to the game, the coaching staff and team will honor the seniors with a special ceremony.

The Stags are still in the hunt for a spot in the MAAC tournament which begins on November 15. With the tournament being played at Lessing Field, Fairfield would certainly have the home field advantage when the event begins a week from Friday. Right now, Fairfield trails Manhattan College for the final tournament berth by three points which is the equivalent to one victory in the standings. But a win over the Peacocks would certainly keep Fairfield in the running for a spot.

The team comes off a 2-0 setback to Quinnipiac University on the road. Joe Martin made two saves for the Stags as the Bobcats outshot the Stags. Martin owns a 1.36 goals against average and raised his save total for the season to 48 stops with a .710 save percentage.

Reco McLaren remains the team's top scorer with 17 points, tallying seven goals and three assists this year The senior, who led the team in scoring last season, had the same goal total a year ago and looks to move into several of the program's all-time scoring lists with a strong finish. McLaren also has four game-winning goals this year. Jon Clements is next in line with six goals for 12 points, which places him among the top goal scorers in Fairifeld history.

Saint Peter's brings a 3-8-5 overall record into tonight's match with a 1-4-3 MAAC mark which includes a 0-0 tie with Quinnipiac in its last outing. The Peacocks are 1-1-1 in their last three games, defeating Canisius by a 1-0 count and falling to Iona by the same score before taking on Quinnipiac.

Marcel Maddee is the team's leading scorer with four goals and five assists for 13 points, the only Peacock to have a double-digit scoring total. Nick Sifrin is next in line with five points, netting a pair of goals with an assist with one of those goals being a game winner. Carlos Suarez and David Giddings have split the goalkeeping duties and have combined for a 1.10 goals against average this season.

The Stags will finish the regular-season with a road game against Marist on Saturday at 7 pm.
