Vallely Selected To Play In IWLCA North/South Game
Jun 5, 2008
Fairfield University’s Mary Vallely has been selected to
play for the North Team in the Intercollegiate Women’s
Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) North/South Game, to be played
June 14.
“I am very honored to be selected for the North/South Senior
All-Star Game and thrilled to have the opportunity to play with
such an elite group of division one players,” said Vallely.
“I look forward to representing Fairfield University and the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in this special
event.”
A graduate of the Lawrence Academy, Vallely is a two-time MAAC
Defensive Player of the Year. She finished her career ranked
third all-time at Fairfield with 80 caused turnovers, including
finishing the 2007 season ranked 10th in the NCAA in that
category. Over her 58-game career Vallely recorded 125 ground
balls, seventh-best in program history, while winning 54 draw
controls, to finish among the program’s best in that category
as well. On the offensive end of the field she tallied 32
career points, including 24 goals, with a career-high 11 tallies as
a junior.
“Mary is truly deserving of this selection and has proven
herself worthy to be on the field with the best players in the
nation,” said head coach Mike Waldvogel. “It is a
tremendous honor for her to have been selected and is also a
statement about the success of our program.”
Fairfield posted a nation-best 17-game win streak this season as it
went 17-2 on the year, setting a program-record for wins. The
Stags captured the MAAC Regular Season title with a perfect 6-0
record and set nine single-season team statistical records in the
process, including goals, assists and draw controls.
Fairfield finishes the season ranked in the top-10 in the nation in
six categories, including second in win percentage and fourth in
scoring offense.
Vallely is a member of the 21-member North team, and is joined by
MAAC foe Elizabeth Burkhard of Marist College. Other
teammates hail from the likes of Notre Dame, Syracuse, Penn State
and Loyola. The North team will be coached by Syracuse head
coach Gary Gait.
