Len Roberto, Fairfield University Director of Men’s and Women’s golf announced the fall portion of the Stags 2008-09 schedule today.  The teams are both scheduled to play in five tournaments up and down the Atlantic Seaboard.

“The schedule that we are playing is very competitive and has us playing top level competition at a variety of tournaments,” said Roberto.  “This enables us to compete with against a diverse field in the fall, helping to prepare for the spring championship season.”

The men’s and women’s team will play together in a pair of tournaments.  The first is the Colonial Golf Classic, Oct. 12-14 at Montour Heights Golf Course, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and hosted by Robert Morris. The squads will then wrap up the fall season at the Mount St. Mary’s Fall Invitational, Oct. 26-28 at Quail Valley Golf Course

The women will open the year first, Sept. 7-9 at the Towson Invitational at Harbourtowne Resort.  The Stags then travel to Hanover Country Club, Hanover, N.H., for the Dartmouth Women’s Invitational, Sept, 13-14.  The longest road trip of the fall for the women’s team will come at the end of the month, Sept. 27-30, to participate in the Charleston Southern tournament in South Carolina.

The men’s squad will begin play at the Rutgers Invitational, Sept, 11-13, played at the Rutgers Golf Course.  The team then heads south three weeks later, Oct. 3-5, to play at the University of Delaware tournament in Scotty Duncan Invitational.  After the western swing to Pittsburgh, the men will take part at the NEIGA Championship, Oct. 19-21 in Cape Cod, Mass., at the Captains Golf Course.

Roberto is in his fourth season at the helm of both of the Stags golf programs, as his 11th overall as the men’s coach.  He was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Golf Coach of the Year this past spring, after leading the men to a fifth-place finish in the MAAC Championship.  The women placed second at that event.
