Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team announced that it will compete in two events during fall ball. The fall schedule will be highlighted by a home event October 7 and participation in the College Lacrosse Preview, October 14.
The College Lacrosse Preview will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., home of the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship. Alongside Fairfield at the event, will be 2006 National Runner-up Massachusetts, and a third ECAC lacrosse League member, Loyola. The other participants in the event are Navy, Princeton and Harvard.
"There are six great teams participating in this event and we are pleased to be among them," said Fairfield head coach Ted Spencer. "This is a great event that will help showcase the site of the 2008 National Championships and to showcase what lacrosse in New England is about.
Each of the six teams will play twice, with three games beginning at noon and three games beginning at 3 p.m. The Stags will take on Harvard, whom they defeated 7-5 during the spring and will face off with Navy in the late game.
The Stags will host a four-team event on Saturday, October 7 on Alumni Field. Brown, Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart will join the Stags for a round robin affair, with each of the teams meeting throughout the day of competition. Times for the October 7th contests will be announced in the coming weeks.
Fairfield is in its second season of playing in the ECAC Lacrosse League, posting a 4-3 league record in 2006. The Stags posted a 6-7 overall mark in the spring.
