The Fairfield University men's lacrosse program has reached new heights, earning its best rankings in national polls in the team's history. The March 19 USILA Poll has the Stags tied for 12th, with North Carolina, having received 85 points. The Stags are also ranked 14th in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Poll, released Monday as well.
Fairfield earned a number 15 ranking after defeating Denver on May 7, 2005, a win which propelled the Stags into the NCAA Tournament, for the second time in program history.
The Stags started the season 17th in the USILA poll, but fell out before ever playing a game this season. The team reentered the poll last Monday, at 20th, and moved into the 12th place tie after defeating then #11 Bucknell and Harvard during the week at home.
Fairfield begins a three-game road swing this week, at Penn State, an ECAC Lacrosse League member, on Saturday. The Stags then play the following Saturday at ECAC foe Hobart and April 7 at ECAC opponent Georgetown.
