The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team was defeated 19-2 by ECAC Lacrosse League foe #14 Loyola College on Saturday in Baltimore, Md. The Stags fall to 5-5 on the year and 1-4 in ECAC play, while the Greyhounds improve to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in conference action.
Loyola wasted little time in getting on the board, tallying five first quarter goals. Three of those goals were scored in man-up situations. The Greyhounds would score the first five goals of the second quarter as well, for the 10-0 advantage.
Brendan Finnerty put the Stags on the scoreboard before intermission, with an unassisted goal with 15 seconds remaining. Loyola got the goal back at the 13:19 mark of the third quarter. Mike Bocklet would tally the next goal, the Stags last, at 7:43, before Loyola finished hte game with eight unanswered goals.
Mike Kruger made the start in net, allowing seven goals, and making four saves in 17:09 of action. Piet Dudley played the final 42:51, recording eight saves and giving up 12 goals.
Shane Koppens had six points, including five assists to lead the Greyhounds. Greg Leonard also added six points, with four goals and two assists. Alex Peaty earned the win, playing 45 minutes in net, with 10 saves, and allowing two goals. Connor Locke minded the net in the fourth quarter, making one save.
Fairfield was outshot 42-24 in the game and Loyola dominated ground balls, 41-24. Fairfield won eight of the 24 face-offs in the game.
The Stags will play their final two regular season games at home this week. They will host UMass at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and then host St. John's on Sunday at 1 p.m.
