Box Score

Five second half goals, and 13 saves by keeper Mike Kruger, was not enough as the #19 Fairfield University men's lacrosse team could not overcome #5 Georgetown University, falling 8-7 in an ECAC Lacrosse League contest in Washington, D.C. The Stags fall to 5-3 on the year and 1-3 in ECAC play, while the Hoyas are now 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in league play.

Trailing 7-5 entering the fourth quarter the Stags scored back-to-back goals. Dan Boudreau netted a pass from Chris Manley at 12:50 to cut the deficit to one goal, 7-6. Fairfield knotted the score 42 seconds later when Manley fed Greg Downing.

The teams settled into a defensive mindset for the next 10:00, with Kruger making three saves. The Hoyas got the game-winner at the 1:45 mark, when Scott Kocis ripped a low shot into the net.

Fairfield trailed at the half, 5-2, after giving up four unanswered goals in the second quarter. Downing started a three-goal Fairfield run in the beginning of the second half, with a goal from Manley. Brendan Finnerty made the score 5-4 at 10:37, unassisted, and Mike Bocklet, from Manley again, knotted the score 5-5 at the 8:31 mark. The Hoyas scored twice, at 7:55 and with 32 seconds to play, in the quarter, to set up the fourth quarter.

Manley was the Stags top point scorer, with four assists. Bocklet was the team's leading goal scorer, with three. Downing tallied a pair of goals, while Dan Boudreau and Finnerty tallied the other goals. Boudreau also had an assist in the game.

Fairfield struck first, as Mike Bocklet netted a pass from Dan Boudreau at the 10:39 mark. The Hoyas tied it 2:06 later, before Bocklet put the Stags back ahead, at the 7:10 mark, 2-1, which would be the sore at the end of the first quarter.

Georgetown was led by Brendan Cannon who had two goals and two assists. Andrew Baird tallied three points, two goals and one assist, as well. Miles Kass made 12 saves in the game.

The Stags are back in action on Sunday, April 15, when they host North Carolina at noon on Lessing Field. Part of the Alumni Associations `Spring Back to Fairfield' event, the 1987 men's club lacrosse team will be honored prior to the start of the game.
