Apr 7, 2008

Fairfield University men’s lacrosse freshman Todd Baxter (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League rookie of the week, it was announced Monday afternoon.  It marks the first weekly accolade for Baxter, and the Stags third ECAC weekly honor of the season.

Baxter, a graduate of Eden Prairie High School, had a team-high four points in the Stags near upset of league foe, #5 Georgetown on Saturday.  Fairfield tallied eight goals in the contest, and Baxter played a role in four of those scores.

Baxter’s first assist, the first point of his collegiate career, came with 60 seconds remaining in the first half, as he fed a teammate for a goal that tied the score 3-3 at the intermission.  His second assist came 3:02 in the third quarter again on a goal that tied the game, this time, 4-4.

The rookie, who plays attack, scored his first collegiate goal early in the final quarter, cutting the Stags deficit to a single goal, 7-6.  His second tally came with 7:44 to play in the game, again bringing Fairfield within one tally, at 8-7.  The Stags would tie the score 18 seconds later, before falling 10-8.

The Stags are in the midst of a three-game home stand that continues on Saturday, April 12, when they host Yale University at 7 p.m.
