Fairfield University men’s lacrosse player Doug Kuring (New Milford, Conn.) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League co-rookie of the week on Monday. The rookie earns the Stags first-ever ECAC rookie of the week award.

Kuring, a graduate of New Milford High School, had a collegiate debut to remember, leading the team with three points.  The biggest point of all came with 2:02 remaining in overtime, when, with his back to the net, scooped a ground ball into the goal for the game-winning tally.  Earlier in the contest he had dished out a pair of assists, both to Travis Nelson (Oswego, N.Y.), including the team’s first tally of the year.

Fairfield defeated Providence 7-6 in overtime to open the season 1-0, for the seventh straight season.  The Stags will open the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, March 1, hosting Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
