Stags Having Solid Summers on Baseball Diamond

Those Stags that are playing summer ball have represented Fairfield well so far this season.

Rob Gariano has had two impressive starts for the Harwich Mariners (4-6). Gariano picked up his first win on June 26 against Hyannis, fanning 11 batters in 5.1 shutout innings in a rain-shortened game. He scattered four hits and did not walk a batter. In his first start on June 14 against Orleans, Gariano scattered one run, seven hits, and a walk over seven innings while striking out eight batters, but received the no-decision.

Jason Rago and Scott Gussaroff are off to solid starts for the North Fork Ospreys (7-4). Rago has appeared in all 11 games, starting 10 of those contests. He's batting .333 (11-for-33) with three home runs, a league-high nine walks, a team-best 10 runs scored, and six RBI. Rago is also 6-for-7 in the stolen base department. Gussaroff has made two starts on the mound for the Ospreys, forging a 1-1 record. He picked up a win in his last start against Sag Harbor on June 16, scattering two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Since joining the Sanford Mainers (8-6) on June 19, Tucker Nathans is hitting .357 with three runs scored and two RBI. He has appeared in four games, starting three of those contests at both short stop and second base.

Chris Horning has appeared in 10 games with seven starts for the Vienna Senators (11-3). Horning is hitting .261 with seven walks, four RBI, and four runs scored.

Ryan Furbeck has played in five games for the Northern NJ Eagles (3-6) and his hitting .214 with two runs scored.
